Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, has said that Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor has been treated unfairly by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).He made this remark during a PDP caucus meeting in Makurdi.

Ortom and Wike are aggrieved since after the PDP presidential primary that led to the emergence of Ahaji Atiku Abubakar as the Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. Wike had contested the primary in May and lost to Atiku. Subsequently, Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the PDP described Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal as the “hero of the convention”. Tambuwal had withdrawn for Atiku at the primary.

Thereafter, Atiku picked Ifeanyi Okowa as his vice-presidential running mate – instead of Wike. These developments led to the Party’s internal crisis. Wike and his supporters demand the resignation of Ayu.
