Director-General of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah has warned operators in the country’s broadcast industry, that hate-speech will not be tolerated.
This is coming ahead of the kick-off of political campaigns for the 2023 general elections, which many predict will be anything but courteous.
Illelah was speaking at a sensitisation session on political broadcasting in Abuja. He warned that the Commission would sanction, including shutting down, any organisation that breaches the broadcasting codes.
Heads of broadcast media organisations, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Nigeria Police Force were among those in attendance.
