Seven killed as storms lash Italy

At least seven people died during a violent storm in central Italy and flooded roads and homes on Friday.

Authorities told AGI that three people were missing, including a six-year-old child travelling with its mother in a car. The mother was rescued but the child was washed away by the floodwaters.

The worst hit area was Ancona, a Port city on the Adriatic. Several areas on the port left were without electricity or telephone connections.

The Corriere della Sera newspaper revealed that about 400 millimetres (16 inches) of rain fell in two hours, about the quantity normally recorded in six months in the zone.
