Qatar postpones Buhari’s planned visit

The government of Qatar has requested for a change in dates for the planned visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the country in September.

According to a note dated 19 August from the Embassy of Qatar to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Qatari government said the dates earlier on agreed “are not suitable”, and enjoins the Nigerian government to postpone the visit preferably to “the first quarter of 2023”

President Buhari had earlier agreed to visit the Gulf State between to 11 to 12 September on the invitation of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.

Although the reason for the postponement is not clearly mentioned in the note, observers have said that it may not be unconnected to Qatar’s World Cup preparations.
