OSCARS 2023: Nigerian movies fail eligibility criteria again

Nigeria will not enter a film in the International Feature Film (IFF) category of the Oscars for the second time in a row. The reason behind the failure is that none of the entries received by the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) met the eligibility criteria.

Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, Chairperson of NOSC, revealed this in a statement, Monday. The statement said Nigeria’s last submission was “The Milkmaid” in 2020.

‘The Milkmaid’, a film that’s based on the Boko Haram insurgency, was Nigeria’s first-ever submission in the International Feature Film category. It failed to make the first shortlist in the IFF category.
