The National Taskforce on Prohibition of Illegal, Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NATFORCE) is illegal. This is the position of the national security council (NSC).
Speaking with journalists after the NSC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said the council posit that NATFORCE is illegal and that it should disband itself.
Nigeria has been contending with the problem of arms infiltration into the country. Buhari had blamed the influx of small arms into Nigeria on the crisis in Libya. In 2021, the President approved the establishment of a national center for the control of small arms and light weapons (NCCSALW).
