The Department of State Services (DSS) have in a statement issued on Sunday night, said they will not make further comments on Tukur Mamu’s arrest. The spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, said they should be left alone to do their job.

In what sounded like a veiled response to the comments by the Islamic Cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi in which he challenged the DSS to charge Mamu to court or release him, Mr Afunanya said, the DSS is aware of the “overzealous comments by sections of the public in view of issues relating to the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mamu.”

He added that on the subject matter, “the Court will determine its course”, especially given that the outcome of the investigation is “mind-boggling.”

Tukur was arrested last week.
