Former vice president and the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday reinstated his position that Senator Iyioricha Ayu cannot be forced to resign as the party’s National Chairman.
Reacting to the news of Wike and his allies pulling out of his Campaign Council, Atiku said he cannot force Ayu or any member of the party to arbitrarily vacate his position, and that as a “true democrat and a firm believer in the rule of law”, he would ensure that any action taken by the party is in conformity with the PDP constitution.
Wike and his allies have insisted that the only condition for them to support Atiku’s presidential bid in 2023, is if the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, resigns his position.
