Heavy rainfall and flooding in Jigawa State have increased the death toll to almost 100. The death toll is said to have increased as prayers are being said to slow the torrential rainfall across the state.
The police said most of the dead were killed by drowning, thunderstorms, and in collapsed buildings. Earlier this week, the State Emergency Management Service, (SEMA) said the death toll from the flood has increased to 98.
Sani Yusuf, the head of SEMA told reporters that the situation has worsened as the number of communities affected by the flooding has also increased. He said the flood destroyed over 57,000 houses and displaced at least 100,000 people.
