Confusion as FG withdraws directive to VC’s to reopen universities

There was confusion on Monday within the highest academic circle, after an official circular that had instructed vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors and governing councils to re-open federal universities was withdrawn.

The Skuup had reported that the Federal Government through the National Universities Commission has ordered vice-chancellors to re-open schools and allow students resume lectures.

The latest circular signed by the Director, Finance and Account of the NUC, Sam Onazi, said, “the circular stands withdrawn. All pro-chancellors and chairmen of governing councils, as well as vice-chancellors of federal universities are to please note.”

There are several twists to the story of Nigeria’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike – it includes ongoing court cases.
