The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court has banned the planned rally by Peter Obi supporters that was scheduled for 1 October at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos state. In a ruling on Wednesday, judge Daniel Osiagor, said organisers of the supporters should not converge at the toll gate.
The judge also ordered that the Inspector General of Police and the Lagos State Police Commissioner must ensure compliance with the order. Mr Osiagor, however, ruled that the rally can proceed through the toll plaza and continue to other locations.
The court was approached by ten plaintiffs, including nine lawyers, who sought the court to restrain Mr Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, his VP candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and the party’s supporters, from holding the rally in Lagos.
